  • To counter the Protestant view, Roman Catholics developed the Annales Ecclesiastici by Cardinal Caesar Baronius.
  • Volume X saw Baronius coin the term "dark age" for 888 - 1046.
  • "Lack of writers" many refer to the number of volumes in Migne's Patrologia Latina.
  • There is a sharp drop from 33 volumes in the 9th Century to just 7 in the 10th, with the 11th Century having 12 volumes.
